Emily Dickinson

Image of American poet Emily Dickinson

Let’s start this morning off with a poem by American poet Emily Dickinson (December 10, 1830 – May 15, 1886). Little known during her life, she has since been regarded as one of the most important figures in American poetry.

We Never Know How High We Are
RW1197

We never know how high we are
Till we are asked to rise
And then if we are true to plan
Our statures touch the skies -

The Heroism we recite
Would be a normal thing
Did not ourselves the Cubits warp
For fear to be a King

--Emily Dickinson
