D. H. Lawrence
Today we note the birth date of D.H. Lawrence (September 11, 1885 — March 2, 1930), English author of novels, short stories, poems, plays, essays, travel books, and letters.
His novels Sons and Lovers (1913), The Rainbow (1915), Women in Love (1920), and Lady Chatterley’s Lover (1928) made him one of the most controversial and influential English writers of the 20th century.
His works, a number of which were banned, represent an extended reflection upon the dehumanizing effects of modernity and industrialization.
Green
The dawn was apple-green,
The sky was green wine held up in the sun,
The moon was a golden petal between.
She opened her eyes, and green
They shone, clear like flowers undone
For the first time, now for the first time seen.
