Marina Tsvetaeva
Here’s a poem for this Tuesday morning by Russian poet Marina Ivanovna Tsvetaeva (October 8, 1892 – August 31, 1941) whose work is considered among some of the greatest in twentieth century Russian literature.
She lived through and wrote of the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the Moscow famine that followed it.
A Kiss On The Forehead
A kiss on the forehead—erases misery.
I kiss your forehead.
A kiss on the eyes—lifts sleeplessness.
I kiss your eyes.
A kiss on the lips—is a drink of water.
I kiss your lips.
A kiss on the forehead—erases memory.
--Marina Tsvetaeva (1917)
